Louis Tauzin was the son of landscape and sea painter, lithographer, and poster artist (1842-1915) of the same name. He later added Eugène as a middle name, maybe because he was often mistaken for his father. The sculptor was a pupil of Jules Coutan at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. The first version of the 32 cm high bronze statue Le lancer de poids probably dates back to 1913.
