Biography

Born in Strasbourg (Straßburg), when it was part of Germany, Paul Bürck was a painter, graphic artist, and textile designer. Initially, he made an apprenticeship as a decorative painter. He then studied in München at the School of Arts and Crafts and was appointed in 1899 as the youngest member of the Darmstadt Artists’ Colony. Then he went to Magdeburg for two years and three years to Rome, until he eventually settled in Munich. He caused stirs in the art scene with his designs for decorative purposes, floor carpets, wallpaper, and book decorations.

Later, Bürck turned exclusively to painting and graphic art. Among others, murals in the Munich House of the Olympic Village of 1936 in Döberitz were painted by him. Possibly the submitted drafts were part of the designs. During a stay in the village during the Games, he created numerous portrait drawings of athletes.
