Biography

Johann Heinrich Höhl was a German painter and graphic artist based in Frankfurt on Main and was a pupil of the famous painter Max Beckmann (1884-1950). Höhl lived in Büdingen after the destruction of his Frankfurt studio in World War II until he established the Institute of Painting and Graphic Arts at Philipps University in Marburg. He was repeatedly inspired by the abundance and design of the garden of Edith Kölsch (1894-1985) in Büdingen to paintings of coloristic passion and subtle drawings.
