Biography

Angelo Di Castro had to leave school after the introduction of race laws in Italy, but continued to be educated by his father, who ran an antique shop. In 1940 he began to study at the School of Ornamental Arts in Roma. Shortly afterwards he also joined Alfredo Biagini’s studio as an assistant. In 1943, the family had to convert to Catholicism and seek refuge in the Vatican. Immediately after the end of World War II, supported by Biagini, Di Castro opened his own studio and started to participate in exhibitions. The submitted work for the Olympics, Il Rugby, was a 64 x 33 cm red wax relief, which was later cast in bronze. Beginning in the 1950s, Di Castro focused more on drawings and paintings. In 1958 he decided to give up his artistic career and work as an art expert. Because of this activity, he was awarded numerous high Italian distinctions.
