Volterrano Volterrani was the professional name of Italian sculptor of Almo Volterano, who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Roma. After World War I, he mostly created figures, busts and portraits, using as his influence classical Roman statuary. He was close to a group of artists, who formed around the art magazine “Valori Plastici”. In the 1930s, he increased his popularity. The works were portraits of boxers, dancers, busts, and small, older allegorical medals. After World War II he mostly produced war memorials and art for churches, for instance, bas reliefs. Volterrani also designed bronze statues for the velodrome for the 1960 Roma Olympics, including a statue of legendary cyclist Fausto Coppi.
