Biography

Aldo Maniacco’s parents were Italians who had settled in North America a few years before he was born in Sault Sainte Marie, Ontario in 1934. By the mid-1950s Maniacco moved to Italy with other Italian-Canadians to boost the chances of the Italian ice hockey team at the 1956 Cortina d’Ampezzo Olympics. He had a good performance at the Games for Italy, where he finished as the team’s joint-top scorer with five goals in six matches. In January 2025 Maniacco along with two of his teammates from the 1956 Olympics were inducted into the Sault Ste. Marie Hockey Hall of Fame.
