Edmund Bartłomiejczyk

Edmund Bartłomiejczyk studied at the academies of fine arts in Krakow and Warszawa from 1906 to 1913. He taught at the Faculty of Architecture at Warsaw University of Technology from 1917-30. He was also named professor at the School of Fine Arts (since 1932 Academy of Fine Arts ) in Warszawa, where he later led the Department of Graphic Designers. Bartłomiejczyk was the first professor for commercial art in Poland. In 1935 he received the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.

After World War II, he reorganized the Academy of Fine Arts and became its vice-president. Bartłomiejczyk worked primarily as a book illustrator, wood carver, lithographer, and metal technician. In 1930 he created Narciarze (Skiers), a colored woodcut measuring 24.7 x 27.5 cm. The wood block is not preserved.
