Biography

Acke Åslund was a painter and printmaker. He studied at the Technical School in Stockholm (from 1900) and the Art Academy (from 1904), also in Stockholm. He also attended the famous etching course of Axel Tallberg. Later Åslund travelled to Germany, France and Spain. He was primarily known for depicting horses, which are found in his drawings and paintings. At the Veterinary College he studied horse anatomy, and lived for long periods near the North Swedish horse center, Vången’s Stallion Breeding Center in Jämtland. Åslund’s paintings carry an air of impressionism. He was a member of the Artists National Organization, the Swedish Artists Association, the Graphic Society and the Artists’ Club in Stockholm.

His chalk drawings are more highly regarded than his oil paintings. There are at least three known drawings or prints by Åslund with the title Travhästar (Trotting Horses) produced between 1915 and 1920. The largest part of his estate is in the Provincial Museum of Jämtland.
