Biography

Lisa “Louise” Bianchini was a Swedish painter who was married to Italian-born painter Artur Bianchini (1869-1955). She was educated at the art school of the Swedish Artists Association in Stockholm under Anders Zorn, Richard Bergh, Aron Jerle and Fanny Hjelm. Bianchini made study trips to Denmark, Finland and Germany. She later specialized in miniature painting, and created watercolor paintings on ivory including a portrait of playwright Strindberg and other famous Swedes, as well as child portraits, small-format marine images, outdoor paintings and nudes. For some time, Bianchini was the chairperson of the Swedish Artists Association. Her works were mainly presented in Scandinavia.

The seven submitted works, which apparently are all scenes of sailing races, could not be identified; only some of the boats mentioned in the titles. The “Magda X”, for example, was built in Scotland in 1910 as “Sophie-Elisabeth”, sold to Norway a few years later and eventually renamed. “Zuleika” was built in Sweden in 1929 and sailed as “Ian” from 2005. The “Kitty” originated in the Netherlands and was renamed in 1931. The original name of the “Aavoryn” was “Luna V” and she was part of the Danish 10-meter fleet from 1923. In 1927 she was sold to Sweden and after several renamings she was again called “Aavoryn”.
