Biography

Benjamin Brown was a well-known landscape painter and was often referred to as a pioneer of Impressionism in California. At first he was a photographer, although he later studied painting in Paris at Académie Julian. He first studied at the St. Louis School of Fine Arts. He started his art career as a painter of portraits and still lifes.
