Hungarian-born Austrian Edmund Moiret studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest, and later in Wien (Vienna) and also at the Académie des Beaux Arts in Bruxelles. From 1911 he taught drawing at the University of Budapest and from 1915 at the local craft and drawing school. In 1920 Moiret moved to Vienna. In 1941 he became a member of the Wien Künstlerhaus, and in 1948 was awarded the “Gold Medal.” Moiret created numerous sculptures, reliefs, portraits, compositions and drawings, and participated in exhibitions at home and abroad. He received the Harkanyi Prize (1910) and the Franz-Josef-Anniversary Price of Budapest (1911). He created the Runner with Olympic Torch for the porcelain manufactory Augarten in Wien around 1936. The figure’s height is 39 cm.
