Knut Thelning, the son of a surveyor, was entered for both discus events at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm but did not start. He left the Army as a lieutenant of the reserve and became a civil engineer. He married a Copenhagen-born women, Lille Ernestine Geschwendtner, in 1921. They had one son.
