Biography

German sailor Gunnar Bahr won the silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in the three-person keelboat (soling class) with sailing legend Jochen Schümann and Ingo Borkowski. The Germans narrowly lost the final race 4-3 against Denmark, with Jesper Bank at the helm. The German crew was then awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award.

In 1997, Bahr and crew won the European Championships and the European Match Race Cup. The next year they won the World Championships and the European Match Race Cup again, as well as the bronze medal at the Europeans. In 1999, the crew won silver at the Worlds bronze at the Europeans.
