Biography

Melissa Mulloy was a rifle shooter who shot small-bore rifle at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She won a silver medal in air rifle at the 1999 Pan American Games. She was on the US National Team from 2000-03.

Mulloy competed in college at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks (UAF), earning a degree in business administration, and later earned a master’s degree from Troy University. As a junior she received the NCAA Woman of the Year Award for Alaska. At UAF she was part of NCAA National Championships from 1999-2001, was the USA Shooting National Champion in 2000, and was a UAF Female Scholar Athlete in 1999 and 2001. She was a four-time All-American at UAF and was later inducted into the UAF Hall of Fame.

Mulloy learned shooting from her father, who was head coach of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) rifle team from 2001-11. She also became a coach and as Melissa Mulloy-Mecozzi she succeeded her father as head rifle coach at MIT in 2012. In 2014 she was named the NEWMAC (New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference) Coach of the Year, the first time an MIT rifle coach earned that honor.
