Biography

Kevin Wong played beach volleyball alongside Rob Heidger at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Wong played indoor volleyball at UCLA, making All-American three times and helping them win NCAA titles in 1993 and 1995. After college he switched to beach volleyball exclusively.

Wong played professional beach for 15 years, ranking #1 in the world in 2000. He won the King of the Beach title, and twice won the biggest US beach tournament, the Manhattan Beach Open.

After retiring as a player, Wong returned to his native Hawai’i where he became a color commentator on television for volleyball and a coach. He primarily coached youths and high school level players. In 2014 he was the USA Volleyball National Coach of the Year, while in 2019 he was named the USA Volleyball National Club Director of the Year, and in 2018-19 Wong was named the AVCA National Boys Coach of the Year
