Biography

German volleyball player Angelina Grün was born in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. She was considered one of the best female volleyball players of her time and was named Volleyball Player of the Year nine times. She later married her team-mate Stefan Hübner. At the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Grün placed sixth with the German squad and in 2004 placed ninth. In total, she won 297 international caps, and won a bronze medal at the 2003 European Championships, and silver in 2011.

At club level, Grün played with VC Essen-Borbeck (1990-96), USC Münster (1996-2001), Edison Volley Modena, Italy (2001-03), Voppapedretti Bergamo, Italy (2003-08), VakıfBank Spor Kulübü İstanbul, Turkey (2008-09), Alemannia Aachen (2011), Dynamo Moskau, Russia (2011-12), Rabita Baku, Azerbaijan (2012-13), and finally, after giving birth to her first child, with SG Marmagen-Nettersheim (2014-16).

Grün won numerous titles in her domestic career. She won the German Championship in 1997, German Cup in 2000, Italian Cup in 2002 and 2006, Italian Championship in 2004 and 2006, Russian Cup in 2011, and Azerbaijan Championship in 2013. She also won the CEV Cups in 2002 and 2004, and the European Champions League in 2005 and 2007. Due to injuries she sustained, Grün tried playing beach volleyball for one season in 2010.
