Biography

Joaquín Larroya was a kayaker who competed at the 1960 Roma Olympics. He dominated state and national competition in the later 1950s and 1960s, winning triple Spanish titles in the 500, 1,000, and 10,000 metres in 1960-63, 1966, and 1967, while also winning the 500 in 1964, the 1,000 metres in 1958, and the 10K in 1958, 1964-65 and 1968, giving him 10 titles in the 10,000, with nine consecutive from 1960-68. Larroya raced at several editions of the International Descent of the Sella. He paddled at several European Championships, starting in 1957, and in 1965 won the Spanish Canoe Cross Championship. Larroya continued competing in later years in the veterans category.
