Brandon Slay

Brandon Slay won a gold medal in freestyle middleweight wrestling at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. In the final match he faced the German Alexander Leipold, who defeated Slay, 4-0, to seemingly win the gold medal. Leipold tested positive for nandrolone, however, an anabolic steroid, and the gold medal went to Slay.

Slay wrestled in college at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a two-time runner-up in the NCAA Tournament and was twice an All-American. He graduated from the Wharton School of Business at Penn.

Slay became a coach. From 2009-16 he was an assistant national coach for USA Wrestling and the head coach at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. He is a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, the University of Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, the EIWA Hall of Fame, and the Texas Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame.
