Biography

Born in Melbourne in 1929, Noel McLoughlin began playing ice hockey for the Northern Suburbs towards the end of World War II. Between 1947 and 1952 McLoughlin played 73 games for the team before joining Demons IHC in 1953, where he remained at the team until 1964. He became the first person to win two President’s Medals (1959, 1961) for being the best and fairest player in the Victorian league. At state level McLoughlin also won six Goodall Cups with Victoria (1949, 1951–52, 1954–55, 1961). In 1960 he was part of the Australian team that competed in the ice hockey tournament at the Squaw Valley Olympics. Since 2008, a Best Goalie trophy named for McLoughlin and Robert Reid has been given by the Victorian Ice Hockey Association.
