Teppo Rastio

As well as playing in more than 100 international ice hockey matches for Finland Teppo Rastio also played football and had a successful career in construction.

Rastio began his ice hockey career in 1950 playing for Lukko when he was 16. From 1956 to 1958 he played with Ilves where he won two Finnish championships before returning to Lukko for 13 more seasons. At an international level Rastio played in 105 matches where he scored 46 goals. He competed at seven Ice Hockey World Championships and the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics. Rastio was inducted into the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame in 1985.

Rastio played football in Finland’s top division for various clubs from 1956 to 1962. His most successful spell came with Ilves-Kissat where he played in 36 matches for them for the 1957/58 season and scored eight goals. Rastio received one international cap for the Finnish national team when he played for them against Denmark in September 1958.

Outside of playing sport Rastio was a builder who helped to construct sports venues. He spent more than 30 years working as an inspector of sports field construction in Western Finland. Rastio also had a role in developing winter sports in Romania.
