Biography

Rainer Salzgeber was an Austrian Alpine skier. He participated at the 1992 Albertville and 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics and went on to place seventh in the giant slalom in 1992 and fifth in 1994. Also, Salzgeber placed 15th in the super G in 1992 but could not finish the combined. In 1993, he won the silver medal in the giant slalom at the World Championships.

Salzgeber won two gold medals at the 1995 Youth Worlds (slalom and combined). He also won three Austrian national titles (combined in 1990 and 1991, super G in 1995).

Salzgeber later married compatriot Anita Wachter. Their daughter Amanda Salzgeber participated in the 2020 Youth Winter Olympics. Another daughter, Angelina, was a nationally successful Alpine skier. Since retiring from active ski racing in the 2001/02 season, Rainer Salzgeber worked for the ski company Head, as junior coordinator from 2002-05, and as racing director from May 2005.
