Biography

East German Nordic combined skier Gunter Schmieder had his greatest moment at the 1982 Seefeld World Championships, when he won the gold medal with the team. He also competed at the 1980 and 1984 Winter Olympics, placing eighth and 15th, respectively. In 1976 and 1977, he was Youth World Champion. Schmieder later worked as a cross-country coach at Klingenthal.
