Simoneau was US Champion at 30K in 1987 and 1988. Simoneau skied the World Cup circuit from its inception in 1981 through the rest of his career. He was seventh overall in the first World Cup season (1981-82), and in one race, placed second behind teammate Bill Koch, the only 1-2 finish ever for the United States in a major men’s international cross-country ski race.
Simoneau later became a ski coach, and worked in the ski business, first with Fischer Sports. He eventually settled in Oregon, where he became the Nordic ski director of the Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation.
