Biography

German whitewater canoeist Elisabeth Micheler married her fellow Olympian, Britain’s Melvyn Jones after the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, where she won the gold medal in the women’s kayak singles. Four years later at Atlanta, she finished a disappointing tenth. In 1991, she won the gold medal at the World Championships having won a bronze in 1987. She also won team gold in 1987, and bronze in 1995.

Micheler-Jones won national titles in 1990 and 1996. She later raised two children, who also became whitewater canoeists, and she worked with the municipality of Augsburg. She also became sports advisor for the city of Friedberg near Augsburg. Her brother Peter also was a world class whitewater canoeist.
