Biography

Herbert Wachter was an Austrian cross-country skier participating in the 1972 Sapporo and 1976 Innsbruck Winter Olympics. His best Olympic result was a 19th place over 15 km in 1976. With the Austrian 4x10 km relay he came eighth that year.

Domestically, Wachter won ten Austrian national titles and added seven more podiums. He trained as a potter and tiler but later became a customs relations officer. He also coached the Austrian national team from 1983-87 and then the Austrian customs national team from 1987-2004.
