Biography

Justin Wadsworth competed at the 1994, 1998, and 2002 Winter Olympics as a cross-country skier. Wadsworth met Canadian Beckie Scott while competing in skiing and they later married. He then went into coaching and became the head coach for the Canadian cross-country ski team in 2010, as the two settled in Canmore, Alberta.

Wadsworth coached the Canadian team at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics and became known for an act of sportsmanship there. Russian Anton Gafarov was competing in the sprint but broke a ski, and was just trying to finish. Wadsworth saw this, and as Gafarov stopped short of the finish, he kneeled down beside him and gave him a ski from the Canadians’ equipment. He later said, “It was like watching an animal stuck in a trap. You can’t just sit there and do nothing about it. I wanted him to have dignity as he crossed the finish line.”
