Michael Waissnix came from Reichenau/Rax, where for several generations his family ran the Thalhof Hotel, where amongst others Emperor Franz Josef I would stay. Michael was the grandson of Olga Waissnix, muse of Austrian writer Arthur Schnitzler. Their affair was described in the book Die unvollendete Geliebte – Olga Waissnix & Arthur Schnitzler (The Incomplete Mistress).
