Biography

Ken Wellman was a mainstay of ice hockey in Melbourne for over twenty years and played for three of the city’s teams, the Tigers, Blackhawks and Monarchs, during his career. He also represented Victoria in inter-state representative matches between 1953 and 1973. The defenseman participated in the Australian national team’s first two forays into international play, first at the 1960 Olympic Games and then in Pool B of the 1962 World Championships. On the latter occasion Wellman captained the team.
