Pairs skater Ray Wilson was runner-up in the national championship three years in succession with Diane Ward in 1963-65 and was third in 1966 with Valerie Taylor. Later that year, however, Wilson teamed up with Linda Bernard and they immediately enjoyed success by winning the Southern Championships. Wilson and Bernard went on to retain their Southern title in 1967 and also captured the first of three successive national titles. They competed at the 1968 Grenoble Olympics, the 1969 World Figure Skating Championships, and the European Championships three times between 1967-69, with a best finish of 11th at the 1969 Europeans.
Wilson turned professional in 1970 and, along with Bernard, won the professional pairs world title. They also appeared in ice shows, but Bernard was forced to retire through a back injury in 1973.
