Biography

Miro Zajonc was born in the former Czechoslovakia, but defected to Canada in 1981. He slid for Canada and later the United States through the late 1980s. While competing for Canada he was World Champion in singles luge in 1983. Zajonc made the 1988 Winter Olympic team despite breaking his foot in a training accident five weeks prior to the Games. He later became a luge coach was first head coach of the USA Junior team, and in 2012 was made head coach of the USA National Team. He later developed Parkinson’s Disease causing to step down from full-time coaching duties in 2017.
