Fritz Strobl was an Austrian Alpine skier who specialized in speed disciplines. He participated in three Winter Olympics – 1998 at Nagano, 2002 at Salt Lake City, and 2006 at Torino. The peak of his career was the downhill gold medal in 2002, although he unfortunately placed only fourth in the super-G the same year. In 1998, he finished 11th and in 2006 8th in the downhills.
In 2007, Strobl reached another highlight in his career, winning the gold medal at the World Championships with the Austrian team and a silver medal in the super-G. In total, he won nine World Cup races and was runner-up in the overall downhill World Cup in 2002 and 2006. Domestically, he won the super-G title in 1999 and the downhill title in 2001.
Strobl became a policeman by profession. In 2006, he was named president of the children’s police in Austria.
