Dan Westover competed in biathlon at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. He just missed making the 2002 US Olympic biathlon team by less than a point after a series of qualifiers. Westover was a professional soldier in the US Army, an infantry mountaineer, who remained in the Vermont National Guard after his full-time service ended, and competed in biathlon well into the 2010s. Born in Madagascar, he was the first USA Winter Olympian to have been born in Africa.
