Ancient Olympic Games 1

Description

Founded as Myrleia by Colophonian colonists, the town on the Sea of Marmara in western Turkey was renamed Apamea around 200 BCE. This was done by King Prusias of Bythinia, naming it after his wife Apama III. The name Apamea Myrleia came into use to distinguish the city from other Apameas. Now near Mudanya, the polis has single two-time Olympic champion, Marcus Tullius, who won the boxing crown in 141 and 145 CE.
