The Mohammed Taher Trophy was donated in 1950 by His Excellency Mohammed Taher, a member of the International Olympic Committee. The trophy was to be donated to an amateur athlete who might or might not have competed in the Olympic Games, but whose general career justified an award of special distinction. It was discontinued after a decision of the 75th IOC Session in Vienna in 1974.
