Olympic Laurel ()

The Olympic Laurel is an award given by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to those who have “made significant achievements in education, culture, development, and peace through sport”. It was introduced in 2016 as recommendation 26 of Olympic Agenda 2020. The Olympic Laurel is presented during the Opening Ceremony of each Olympic Games. The honorees are chosen by an independent panel representing the five continents. The trophy features a Laurel Wreath and the Olympic Rings which are made out of Fairmined Gold, all atop a base of a stone from Ancient Olympia. The awards given out have been as follows:

2016 Kipchoge Keino (KEN) (Olympic Champion, founder of a Kenyan children’s orphanage)

2020 Muhammad Yunus (BAN) (2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner)
