Olympic Philately, Numismatic, and Memorabilia Commission

Olympic stamps helped fund the 1896 Olympics, and into the 21st Century thousands of stamps, coins and other Olympic memorabilia are sold. On 14 June 1993, the Olympic Philately, Numismatic and Memorabilia Commission was formed by combining three associations that were recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) – the Fédération International de Philately Olympique (FIPO), the Fédération Internationale de Numismatic Olympique (FINO), and the Association of Collectors of Olympic Memorabilia (ACOM). Former IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch, an avid stamp collector, chaired this commission until his death in 2010, and was succeeded by Gerhard Heiberg (NOR). The commission sponsored an annual Olympic Collectors World Fair and an Olympic stamp show, Olymphilex, but as of 2015, it is no longer a recognized IOC Commission.
