There were three music events in the 1936 Arts Competition – Compositions for Orchestra, Competitions for Solo or Chorus, and Instrumental and Chamber Music. There were 32 submitted works with 20 participants from nine nations. A novelty in Olympic music contests was that the winning works were performed live during the Olympics. The nine-person jury consisted of seven Germans. No medals were awarded in Instrumental and Chamber Music but four of the six medals awarded in the other two events went to Germany.
