Painting at the 1936 Summer Olympics

Dates 1 – 16 August 1936
Medal Events 5
Venues Ausstellungsgelände Halle VI, Kaiserdamm, Berlin

There were four painting events in the 1936 Arts Competition – Drawings and Water Colors, Graphic Arts, and Paintings, and an Applied Arts event was added. There were 242 works submitted from 17 nations. The judges were more discriminating, not awarding a gold medal in Drawings and Water Colors, and no medals were awarded in Graphic Arts. The gold medal in Applied Arts was won by the Swiss artist Alex Walter Diggelmann, one of only two artists to win three medals, adding a silver and a bronze at the 1948 Olympics. This was the final time that Drawings and Water Colors was on the Arts Competition Programme.
