The road cycling program was the same as in 1936 with a team and individual event. The road event was conducted as a mass start race of 194.633 km. The team road race consisted of four riders on each team, the best three times to count towards the team time. José Beyaert won the individual gold medal and led Belgium to victory in the team race.
