Nordic Combined at the 1956 Winter Olympics

Dates 29 – 31 January 1956
Medal Events 1

As always, there was a single individual event in 1956 Nordic combined competition. But there were a number of changes to the format of the event. As in the 1952 Oslo Winter Olympics the event started with ski jumping, with all jumpers getting three jumps on the Cortina Hill called Trampolino Italia, with only the best two scores to count. And the event finished two days later with a ski race, which was held as a separate competition, rather than using the times from the open 18 km race. In addition, as in cross-country, the distance was shortened to 15 km, which would become the standard distance. The race started and finished in Stadio Della Neve. For the first time at the Winter Olympics, both segments of the Nordic combined were contested as separate competitions, rather than using one or both of the open events. The format used in 1956 would become standard at the Winter Olympics.
