Ski Jumping at the 1960 Winter Olympics

Dates 28 – 28 February 1960
Medal Events 1

The ski jumping competition at the 1960 Winter Games was held on the specially constructed Olympic Ski Jumping Hill at the base of the north-facing slope of Little Papoose Peak in Squaw Valley. The hill was designed by noted German jump designer Heini Klopfer. The jumping complex had three hills, and 80-metre hill that was used for the Olympic event, a 60-metre hill, and a 40-metre practice hill. Construction was completed in 1958 and the first trial events were held in early 1959. The hill had a K-Point of 80 m. Helmut Recknagel of East Germany became the first German to win the Olympic title. The Squaw Valley hill was last used for competition in 1976 at the US National Championships. It is now in disrepair, lying underneath the Far East Express chairlift on the Squaw Valley Resort.
