Curling was contested at the 1924 Winter Olympics as a full medal sport, and was later demonstrated at the 1932, 1936, 1964, 1988, and 1992 Olympic Winter Games. In 1998, curling returned to the Olympic Program as a full medal sport at Nagano. In 1936, the demonstration was of the variant form of German curling, or eisschießen. The 1992 demonstrations included men’s and women’s competitions, both with eight nations entered. The curling matches were held at La Patinoire in Pralognan-la-Vanoise, which is a small commune near Albertville in the Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.
