The event order in 1924 was shooting, swimming, fencing, 5 km cross-country riding, and finishing with the cross-country run. The competition was again decided by a points-for-place scoring system. The event took place over four days of competition, but spread over six days, with the shooting and swimming held on the first day, 12 July. The shooting took place in the sports park in Versailles, while swimming was held in the Tourelles Swimming Pool. Fencing was contested on 14 July in Colombes, north of Paris. The riding was held on 16 July in Fontainebleau, while the cross-country began near the Olympic Stadium in Colombes, and finished on the track there. There was no International Federation governing modern pentathlon in 1924, and would not be until 1948, so the event was conducted by the French National Olympic Committee.
