There were 29 separate events in the 26th Fête Fédérale de l’Union des Sociétés de Gymnastique de France competitions, which were held during the 1900 Paris International Exposition in the gymnastics category, although not all were gymnastics events, as fencing, boxing, and shooting were all contested. There were 8,050 competitors overall in the 29 different events. This was an individual all-around gymnastics event with many of the same competitors who competed in the Olympic all-around, but it cannot be classified as an Olympic competition because it was limited to athletes from the designated societies. The winner was Joseph Martinez who placed seventh in the Olympic all-around in 1900. One of the runners-up, Lucien Demanet, placed third in the Olympic all-around and returned in 1920 to win a bronze medal in team all-around gymnastics. Gustave Sandras, the other runner-up, actually won the 1900 Olympic all-around gymnastics event. This event should be contrasted with the Olympic Championships for the 26th Fête Fédérale societies which, despite the title, had no competitors, that we know of, who also competed in the Olympic competitions.
