After a minor league ice hockey career in Cornwall, Ontario, forward Lori Dupuis entered the University of Toronto and suited up with their ice hockey squad from 1991 through 1997, winning the collegiate championship four times. During this time she also joined the Canadian women’s national ice hockey team in 1995 and was nominated as the University of Toronto’s Female Athlete of the Year in both 1996 and 1997. After graduating with an Honours Bachelor’s of Arts in French and Geography she joined the Brampton Thunder of the National Women’s Hockey League and participated in her first World Championship victory in 1998. She would experience two more in 1999 and 2000, but in the meantime she journeyed with the national team to the 1998 Winter Olympics, the first time that women’s ice hockey was an official part of the program. At the tournament she suited up for six games, scored two goals, and took home a silver medal. Her next appearance at the Winter Olympics came in 2002, where she played in five matches, scored one goal, and earned a gold medal. As of 2009 she still skates with the Brampton Thunder, now as team captain, and helps run the Jayna Hefford/Lori Dupuis Hockey School. She was inducted into the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.
