Biography

Sara DeCosta played on the boys’ hockey team at Toll Gate High School in Rhode Island, and then enrolled at Providence College. A goaltender, DeCosta played on the US National Team beginning in 1997, taking off a year of school, and also skipped her final year to prepare for the 2002 Winter Olympics. At the 1997 Three Nations Cup, she was in goal as the US shutout Canada, their first victory ever over Canada, and the first time the Canadian National Women’s team had ever been shutout. DeCosta was USA Hockey Women’s Player of the Year in 2000. In 2002-03, she was a volunteer coach for the women’s hockey team at Providence, and later became goaltending coach at Harvard.
