Biography

A Kent, Essex and Southern counties player, Ken Yenson started his career with Leyton after the War and then with Grays Athletic before joining Bromley in 1948. He also helped out Notts County as an amateur although he never played in their first team. A left-back or central defender, he was at full-back when Bromley beat Romford 1-0 in the first FA Amateur Cup final to be played at Wembley Stadium in 1949. He joined non-league side Leyton in 1951 and captained them in the 1952 Amateur Cup final against Walthamstow Avenue. A week after the final he was selected for the Great Britain squad for the 1952 Olympics and was the only uncapped member of the 20-strong squad. He had earned his place after an outstanding season which saw him lead Leyton through the qualifying rounds to reach the final of the Amateur Cup. Unfortunately he never played at the Olympics as Britain were beaten in their only match by Luxembourg. However, he went on to win his one and only England cap against Netherlands at Hull in November 1952.
