Biography

Kevin Hatcher was a defenseman who played for the United States at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. He played 17 years in the NHL, appearing in 1,157 games, and was best known for his time with the Washington Capitals, with whom he played from 1984-94. Hatcher was selected by the Caps in the first round of the NHL draft, as the 17th overall selection.

After leaving Washington he played for two years with the Dallas Stars, then three years with the Pittsburgh Penguins, before finishing his career with lone years with the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes. Hatcher’s best season was 1992/93 when he led NHL defenseman with 34 goals. During his career he was selected to the NHL All-Star Game five times, in 1990-92 and 1996-97. Hatcher was inducted into the US Hockey Hall of Fame in 2010. His brother, Derian Hatcher, played in the NHL and also played in the 1998 and 2006 Winter Olympics.
