Biography

Tony Benshoof was a three-time luge Olympian, competing in singles at the 2002, 2006, and 2010 Winter Olympics. He just missed a medal in 2006 at Torino when he finished fourth. He won multiple medals in international events and the World Cup circuit, and at his retirement, his 37 international medals were the most ever by an American man. Benshoof had three World Championship medals, all in the mixed team event, with silvers in 2004-05 and a bronze in 2001.

Benshoof was a seven-time USA singles champion, equal to the best ever at the end of his career, tying Cammie Myler and Frank Masley. In 2001, at Park City, Utah, he reached a speed of 139.4 km/hr, which made the Guinness Book of World Records as the fastest ever recorded speed in the luge.
