Biography

Stephan Hocke, whose greatest success was his team gold medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics, started with Nordic combined and then switched to ski jumping at the age of 14. Hocke won one World Cup event, on the large hill, in 2001. In August 2003 he had a fall at the Bergiselschanze hill at Innsbruck, breaking a thoracic vertebra, but he was able to start in the World Cup in November. In the following years Hocke had less success, occasionally starting in the Continental Cup. In 2007 he won two German Championships, on the normal hill and with his team. He was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award.
